Tina Turner was born as Ann Mae Bullock, November 26th 1939 in Nutbush, Tennessee.

In 1956 at age 17, Ann Mae meets Ike Turner and his Kings of Rhythm in a club in St.Louis. Ann Mae was at the club with her sister Alline watching Ike Turner playing. Alline was always singing in church and at various contests. One evening at the club, the mike goes around in the public and Ann Mae started singing. From that moment her life will never be the same. She joins Ike and his band.

In 1960 Ike Turner changes the name of Ann Mae into Tina Turner. The first record came out when a singer doesn't show up for recording the song 'A Fool In Love'. Tina takes in his place. The song 'A Fool In Love' by Ike and Tina Turner becomes a hit. The couple goes on tour under the name of 'Ike and Tina Turner Revue', together with their three background singers 'The Ikettes'. Later in 1960 they had another hit with 'I Idolize You'.

1961, another year of touring and another hitsingle with 'It's Gonna Work Out Fine'.

1962, Hits with 'Tra La La La La'and 'You Should'a Treated Me Right'.

1964, Ike and Tina Turner move from the Sue Records label to the Kent Label and they had a new single release with 'I Can't Believe What You Say', reaching #95 in the U.S.


1966, One of the best years Ike and Tina Turner had in their 16 years together. The couple meets producer Phil Spector, who offers Ike Turner an interesting amount of money to record some songs with Tina alone.
In March Tina Turner records the legendary song 'River Deep Mountain High'. In the U.S. the single doesn't climb higher than #88, but in the U.K. it is an enormous success, reaching #3. Europe is hypnotized by the strong voice of Tina Turner. Warner Bros releases an earlier track 'Tell Her I'm Not Home' in the U.K. and it also became a hit. In September they beguan a tour through the U.K. as one of the Support Acts on the tour of The Rolling Stones. Later in 1966 'A Love Like Yours' (also one of the session with producer Phil Spector), is a hit.

1969, 'River Deep Mountain High' is re-released in the U.K. and makes it to the charts again, topping at #33. Ike and Tina Turner sign a new record-deal with Blue Thumb Records. There was also a new single-release, a cover of Otis Redding's 'I've Been Loving You Too Long'. Ike and Tina Turner are again joinging The Rolling Stones as one of the support acts through the United States.

1970, A new record-deal with company Liberty and a new hitsingle for the duo 'I Want To Take You Higher'.
The Ike and Tina Turner Revue guests on several tv-shows, for example by Ed Sullivan and Andy Williams.

1971, The year of the powerful song 'Proud Mary'. A cover from Creedence Clearwater Revival and a big hit for Ike and Tina Turner reaching #5 in the United States. The song was taken from the album 'Working Together', which is their biggest selling lp ever in the United States. Later in 1971 the duo has another hit-album with 'Carnegie Hall, What You See Is What You Get'.

1973, Tina Turner writes her first hitsingle 'Nutbush City Limits', the single climbs up to #4 in the U.K.

1974, Tina appears on the WHO-film 'Tommy' and plays the role of the acid queen. 'Acid Queen' is another hitsingle.

1975, Ike Turner's 'Baby Get It On' is the duo's last hit together and reaches #88 in the U.S.

1976, Tina Turner walks away from Ike Turner and the couple later that year divorced. Tina has finally found the strength to walk away after years of being abused by her husband Ike Turner. She walks out in the midle of a big tour, and with no money.

1978, Tina Turner is performing as a solo-artist in several clubs. She also has a solo album entitled 'Rough', the album has several singles on it: 'Viva La Money' 'Root Toot Undisputable Rock'N'Roller' 'Fruits Of The Night' and 'Sometimes When We Touch', but unfortunately the album doesn't bring Tina big success.

1979, Another solo album for Tina Turner 'Love Explosion', singles: 'Sunset On Sunset' 'Backstabbers' and 'Music Keeps Me Dancing', but again not a big success. This year she also meets Roger Davies, a young manager trying to make it in the music business. Tina has no record-deal anymore, is playing in a club circuit and has a hight debt.

1980, Tina Turner teams up with Roger Davies and Tina is playing in different clubs than before with different band-members. Tina can still not get a new record-deal, this is also because of the reputation of Ike Turner.

1981, A year with new chances for Tina Turner. She joins The Rolling Stones on their tour. Later that year Tina is asked to record the song 'Ball Of Confusion' for the new lp of 'Heaven 17': 'Music Of Quality And Distinction'. In December Tina supports Rod Stewart during a concert broadcast live by satellite all around the world. Roger Davies promotes a serie of Tina Turner dates at the Ritz Club in New York. David Bowie, who was just signed with EMI meets top executives from around the world at a listening party for his forthcoming lp 'Lets Dance'. When Bowie announces to the party that he is moving on to see his 'favorite singer' Tina Turner, EMI executives follow and witness a storming come-back show. This was the start of a whole new career.

1983, Tina comes with a new solo-single, a cover of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together". This is her first single on the Capitol Lable. It reaches #6 in the U.K., it reaches #26 in the U.S.

1984, Terry Britten and Rupert Hine are brought in to collaborate on a first Capitol LP "Private Dancer" was recorded in only two weeks. In the meantime her new single "Help" reaches the international charts. Tina records a duet with David Bowie "Tonight". The song appears on the same entitled Bowie-album. In April Tina Turner opens as a special guest on Lionel Richie's "Can't Slow Down" tour. In July the single "What's Love Got To Do With It" is released and reaches #3 in the U.K.
In the United States "What's Love Got To Do With It" climbs to number 1. The album "Private Dancer" makes it to UK #2 and U.S. #3. The album sells over 12 million copies worldwide. On the same day "What's Love Got To Do With It" reaches #1 in the U.S., Tina signs a deal with movie director George Miller to play the role of 'Aunty Entity' in the movie: "Mad Max 3 : Beyond The Thunderdome". At the end of '84 "Better Be Good To Me" makes it to the charts, reaching U.S. #5.

1985, Tina Turner cooperates or the project "USA FOR AFRICA" and is part of the number one hitsong 'We Are The World'. In February Tina Turner wins Grammy Awards for "What's Love Got To Do With It" - Record Of The Year - Song Of The Year - Best Female Vocal Performance, and a Grammy for "Better Be Good To Me" for Best Female Rock Vocal. The single "Private Dancer" makes it to #7 in the U.S., the third top ten hit from the album. Tina Turner plays 10 sold out concerts at Wembley Stadium in London. Two more hitsingles from "Private Dancer" are released: "I Can't Stand The Rain" and "Show Some Respect".

The movie "Mad Max 3 : Beyond The Thunderdome" is released. Tina performs the role of 'Aunty Entity'. Tina receives more film-offers. She turns down three times an offer from Steven Spielberg for the movie "The Colour Purple", she says the role is too close to her real life. The "Private Dancer" tour is breaking records, and the original 8 dates in West Germany are changed to 30.

Tina Turner also shows up at the famous "Live Aid" concert, where she performs a duet with Mick Jagger. The single "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)" from Mad Max hits U.S. #2 and U.K. #3. In Ocotber was a second single from the movie released: "One Of The Living". Also a new song, a duet with Bryan Adams: "It's Only Love". In December Tina Turner wins an award as Best Actress from the NAACP for her role in Mad Max : Beyond The Thunderdome.

1986, Tina Turner participates in the "Prince's Trust Concert" in London together with Eric Clapton and Elton John. In July is Tina's best-selling autobiography 'I Tina' released. "Typical Male", a new single from her forthcoming new album hits U.S. #2, behind Cyndi Lauper's "True Colours". The new album "Break Every Rule" is released and gets a platinum disc for million-plus sales. The second single from the album "Two People" makes U.K. #43.

1987, Tina Turner tours around the world with her "Break Every Rule" worldtour. The album reaches #1 in nine territories. In August '87 the third single "What You Get Is What You See" is U.S. #11.

1988, In January Tina Turner plays in Rio for 182.000 people in the Maracana Stadium. For this show she is still in the Guiness Book Of Records for the largest audience ever asembled for a single performer. In March the "Break Every Rule" worldtour comes to an end after 230 shows. (playing to over 4 million fans). Tina releases a new double-album "Tina Live In Europe", and it is an enormous success. From the album are also two new singles released, "Tonight (Live)" with David Bowie becomes Tina's first No. 1 in The Netherlands. The other was a duet with Robert Cray "634 5789 (Live)".

1989, August - "The Best", the first single from Tina upcoming album climbs worldwide to the highest regions of the charts. It becomes number one in 7 European countries. In September Tina brings out her third studio-album on Capitol Records "Foreign Affair". In the U.K. the album enters the chart at #1. The 2nd single "Steamy Windows" becomes a success. In November Tina Turner celebrates her 50th birthday. Tina also announces a new tour. 150.000 tickets for England's Woburn Abbey are sold in record time.

1990, The third single from "Foreign Affair" is released "I Don't Wanna Lose You". Later in the year were two more singles taken from the album: "Be Tender With Me Baby" and "Foreign Affair". Tina plays for a total 3.5 million fans, during 125 shows. Tina records a single together with Rod Stewart "It Takes Two", another big hit for Tina, and used for the Pepsi commercials on TV.

1991, Tina releases a brand new version of the hit she wrote during the Ike and Tina Turner period: "Nutbush City Limits (The 90's Version)", it is a hit. A compilation of Tina's greatest hits is released: "Simply The Best" and reaches No. 1 in 12 territories, and has sold over 6 million copies worldwide. At the end of the year Tina has a big hit with "Way Of The World", reaching U.K. #6.

1992, "Love Thing" is released, and even a fourth song from "Simply The Best", is released: "I Want You Near Me".
At the end of the year Tina signs a new record-deal with Virgin Records in the U.S.

1993, "I Don't Wanna Fight" the single penned by Lulu is released and enters the top ten ik the U.K. In June the movie "What's Love Got To Do With It, The True Life Story Of Tina Turner" is released, starring Angela Bassett and Lawrence Fishburne. "I Don't Wanna Fight" receives two Grammy nominations - Best Pop Vocal Performance Female - and - Best Song For A Motion Picture -. It tops the charts in Germany, France, Holland, Denmark and Switzerland. The album for the movie: "Tina : What's Love Got To Do With It" is a success. "Disco Inferno" is the 2nd single from the album.

Tina comes back to her decission that 'Foreign Affair' was her Farewell Tour and starts her "What's Love" tour through the U.S. Later in 1993 the third single is there, the Bryan Adams penned song "Why Must We Wait Until Tonight?".

1994, Tina moves to Zurich, Switzerland and takes a well deserved year off. Tina's "Simply The Best" album is in the U.K. charts for 154 consecutive weeks.

1995, Tina invites neighbour Bono (U2) to a party at her home and later that year Bono writes "Goldeneye" for Tina Turner, the song for the new James Bond movie "Goldeneye". Tina starts the recording for her first studio-album in five years together with producer Trevor Horn. For the album Tina receives a song from The Pet Shop Boys and Sheryl Crow. Tina announces plans for a massive World Tour starting in the summer of 1996, the first European Tour in six years.

1996, April first Tina releases her new studio-album "Wildest Dreams", at the same moment the 2nd single from the album "Whatever You Want" comes out. Later Tina starts her European "Wildest Dreams" tour. Another hitsingle from the album is released: "On Silent Wings" (with at the end of the song backing vocals by Sting). The John Waite cover "Missing You" finds its way to the international charts. At the end of 1996 Tina makes a new version of the title-track of the album "In Your Wildest Dreams", this time a duet with Barry White. Barry White doesn't agree with the videoclip that is made for the song, and he doesn't give his permission to show the clip anymore.

1997, "Wildest Dreams" brings 6 singles for Tina Turner, and in 1997 the 6th is released: "Something Beautiful Remains". Tina is touring through the U.S. with her "Wildest Dreams" worldtour. August 31, Princess Diana dies in a carcrash in Paris, for this occassion a Tribute-album is recorded. Top artists from all over the world are contributing songs for this album. Tina is on the tribute album with the song "Love Is A Beautiful Thing". Tina also joins for the "Carnival-Project" to protect the rainforests, she is on the "Carnival" album with a mini-song "Row Row Row Your Boat", a song of 52 seconds. At the end of '97 Tina records a duet with Eros Ramazzotti "Cose Della Vita / Can't Stop Thinking Of You", it climbs to the top of the charts all over Europe.

1998, another version of the Eros / Tina hit is released especially for Spain, the title in Spanish is: "Cosas De La Vida / Can't Stop Thinking Of You".

1999, Tina sings the title-song for the movie: "Lion King 2 : Simba's Pride", the song is called "He Lives In You". Tina records the song "Easy As Life" for the Elton John / Tim Rice project "Aida". Tina Turner opens the "Divas Live 99" concert singing: "The Best", "Let's Stay Together", "The Bitch Is Back (together with Elton John)" and "Proud Mary (together with Cher)". Later in 1999 is a cd-release of the Divas Live 99 concert.

Tina teams up with the Metro-Team, who are responsible for Cher's worldwide No. 1 "Believe". At the end of 1999 Tina has a worldwide hitsingle with "When The Heartache Is Over". Everybody is expecting a "Simply The Best, Vol.2" album, but Tina surprises her fans with a complete new studio-album: "Twenty Four Seven".
November 26th 1999 Tina celebrates her 60th birthday. For this occassion she gives a unique concert. Her "Happy Birthday" special is later released on video and DVD. The second single from "Twenty Four Seven" is "Whatever You Need", a single in a gospel-style.

2000, Tina starts her "Twenty Four Seven" worldtour, announcing this will be her last big stadiumtour (how many years is she talking about that already?!). The third single is released: "Don't Leave Me This Way", a hit in Germany. The "Twenty Four Seven" tour is breaking records all around the world. At the end of the year Tina Turner is No. 1 at the U.S. list of best selling artists of the year 2000 with 80.2 million dollar (for the U.S. alone). December 6th, 2000 - Tina Turner gives her last show in Anaheim for an audience of 15.000. A worldwide release of the Video/DVD "One Last Time" (a registration of the two concerts Tina gave at Wembley Stadium, London, July 16/17.

December 2000, a mini-cd is released: "All That Glitters" is only available in the Target Stores in the U.S., for this album Tina records a brand new song, a cover of the Prince song "Baby I'm A Star". Also for the first time on cd the song "Hold On (I'm Coming)" which Tina sang during her "Happy Birthday" concert.

2001, Tina takes a well deserved rest after a very busy year of touring. The fans are waiting for Tina to come back again. Rumours are Tina will release her long awaited "Simply The Best, Vol.2" album, with some new songs on it. Other voices are saying Tina will be back with a complete new studio-album. In 2000 Tina also talked about a new book about her life after "I Tina". The only thing we can do is wait and see what the future will bring ... ...
